Position: US Accountant – Cannabis Industry

Location: Remote / Offshore (India) or Onsite (US)

Experience: 3–7 Years

Qualification: CPA / CPA Candidate Preferred

Industry: Cannabis / Marijuana / Regulated Retail

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced US Accountant with CPA expertise to manage accounting, compliance, and financial reporting for clients operating in the Cannabis industry. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of US GAAP, IRS regulations, and cannabis-specific tax rules such as 280E.

Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Bookkeeping

- Manage full-cycle accounting including AP, AR, payroll, and bank reconciliations
- Maintain general ledger and month-end close processes
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with US GAAP

Cannabis Industry Compliance
- Ensure compliance with IRS Section 280E tax regulations
- Track cost of goods sold (COGS) vs non-deductible expenses
- Work with cannabis-specific POS/accounting tools (e.g., Dutchie, Flowhub, MJ Freeway, QuickBooks)

Tax & Regulatory
- Assist with federal and state tax filings for cannabis businesses
- Prepare tax provisions and workpapers
- Coordinate with CPA firms and tax advisors for filings and audits

Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Create budget vs actual analysis
- Develop financial insights for management decision making

Audit & Compliance
- Support financial audits and regulatory audits
- Maintain documentation required for state cannabis compliance

Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and US accounting practices
- Experience with QuickBooks Online / NetSuite
- Understanding of IRS Section 280E
- Advanced Excel / Financial modeling
- Knowledge of inventory accounting

Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license or CPA candidate
- Experience working with cannabis dispensaries, cultivators, or manufacturers
- Experience with multi-state cannabis operations
- Familiarity with seed-to-sale tracking systems
