To assist in preparing and maintaining the Operation Theatre and support the surgical team by ensuring the availability and functioning of OT equipment, instruments, and supplies. The Junior OT Technician works under the guidance of senior staff to help ensure safe and efficient surgical procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

In addition to basic operating room techniques, carries responsibilities in collaboration with the Nurse Executives which includes (but are not limited to):

Daily activities:

1. Prepare the OT before surgical procedures by setting up instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.

2. Assist in arranging surgical tables, lighting, and other necessary apparatus.

3. Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before surgery (e.g., suction machines, cautery units, monitors).

4. Assist in positioning patients correctly as per surgical requirements.

5. Hand over instruments and materials to the surgical team during procedures (under supervision).

6. Ensure proper use and handling of surgical instruments.

7. Help with the cleaning and disinfection of the OT and equipment after surgery.

8. Support safe shifting of patients from OT to recovery/post-operative areas.

9. Assist in the collection and dispatch of specimens (biopsy, cultures, etc.).

10. Follow strict aseptic and sterile techniques at all times.

11. Adhere to infection control protocols for cleaning, waste disposal, and instrument handling.

12. Ensure safe disposal of sharps and contaminated materials.

13. Monitor and report the availability of OT consumables and instruments to senior technicians.

14. Assist in maintaining inventory records and instrument logs.

15. Report any malfunction or damage of equipment immediately.

16. Takes inventory of the area instruments and medical supplies as per the res ponsibility allotted by the Lead Nurse specialist.

17. Reports to the Lead Nurse Specialist problem faced in caring and safety of the patients.

18. Initiates Surgical Safety Checklist before surgery.

19. Sets up, checks, connects and adjusts surgical equipments prior to the surgery based on the surgeon requirements, equipment needs and functionality.

20. Assists in preparing operating rooms and patients prior to surgery.

21. Meets the patient prior to surgery in the operating area with the scrub nurse and checks whether they have any conditions that can cause problems under anesthesia.

22. Monitors patients and their vital signs before, during and after the procedures.

23. Provides technical assistance to surgeons, scrub nurse, circulating nurse and anesthetists.

24. Cleans and restocks the operating room, arranging instrument, supplies and equipments as per the hospital operating room protocol.

25. Positions patients for surgical and anaesthetic treatments.

26. Takes responsibility in maintaining the equipments to the best of usage and reports to higher authority if breakdown happens.

27. Prepares, administers and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments as per hospital policy (High risk High Alert /LASA medication, Narcotic policy and Verbal order policy).

28. Assists with basic life support and post-operative care.

29. Assists treating consultant during examination, treatment and procedures, which can include life-saving situations.

30. Analyzes lab results and reports as required to the concerned authority for faster treatment.

31. Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms as per the protocol of the hospital.

Weekly activities:

1. Maintains cleanliness of the unit in an orderly manner.

2. Initiates scrubbing and fumigation of the operation rooms in case of notifiable disease.

3. Attend Continued Nursing Education conducted in house and out house as per the job requirement and specifications.

Monthly activities:

1. Checks for near expiry medications and replenish it with recent stock.

2. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting as described by the reporting authority and line of control in the hospital.

Depending on setting, may also:

Float among various clinical services, where qualified and competent

Other Responsibilities :

1. Completes required orientation as directed by facility

2. Follows Cloud Nine safety rules and procedures while on assignment.

3. Follows Cloud Nine Codes for Unusual Occurrence Protocol.

4. Respects cultural and religious practices of patients.

6. Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
