Industry: Energy Storage Systems OEM – Battery Manufacturing (Li-ion / Lead-acid / Industrial Batteries)
Role Summary
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for end-to-end supply chain operations—from procurement of critical raw materials (lead, lithium cells, separators, electrolytes, casings) to production planning, vendor management, logistics, and distribution. The role ensures uninterrupted production, cost efficiency, compliance with safety/environmental norms, and on-time delivery to OEM and Renewable energy systems clients and distributors.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Vendor Management
Develop and manage local and global suppliers for raw materials, components, and packaging.
Ensure procurement of lead, lithium cells, BMS components, plates, grids, separators, electrolytes, plastics, and hardware as per material specifications.
Negotiate contracts, pricing, credit terms, and SLAs to ensure cost efficiency.
Identify alternate suppliers to reduce single-source dependency.
Monitor supplier performance: quality, delivery timelines, compliance, and corrective actions.
Inventory & Material Planning
Plan raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory based on sales forecasts and production schedules.
Monitor safety stock levels and optimize reorder points for critical materials.
Implement inventory control techniques (ABC analysis, min-max, JIT, FIFO).
Prevent shortages, overstocking, and inventory write-offs.
Production Planning & Control (PPC)
Create daily/weekly/monthly production plans aligned with customer orders and plant capacity.
Ensure availability of materials as per BOM and production timelines.
Collaborate with QA, Production, and Sales to align demand and supply.
Monitor adherence to the production plan and highlight bottlenecks.
Logistics, Warehousing & Distribution
Oversee inbound logistics: transportation of hazardous materials (where applicable), customs clearance for imported components
Manage outbound logistics to OEM clients, dealers, and warehouses.
Optimize transportation costs through route planning, freight negotiation, and load optimization.
Ensure warehouse process excellence—binning, stacking, safety, cycle counting, dispatch planning.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with BIS, ARAI, DGFT, GST, hazardous material handling, and battery manufacturing regulations.
Maintain documentation for audits—vendor audits, safety audits, ISO, environmental audits (Pollution Control Board).
Ensure safety protocols for handling chemicals, lithium cells, and lead-based materials.
Cost Optimization & Process Improvement
Reduce supply chain costs through continuous improvement, process automation, and waste elimination.
Conduct cost-benefit analysis for make-vs-buy decisions.
Optimize working capital requirements through inventory planning and efficient cash-to-cash cycle.
Implement Lean / Kaizen in supply chain operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with R&D; for new product introduction and BoM finalization.
Align with Sales for demand forecasting and delivery commitments.
Partner with Finance for budgeting, cost control, and commercial negotiations.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
BE / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering OR
MBA in Supply Chain / Operations preferred.
Experience
7–12 years of experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, or Operations.
Minimum 3–5 years in battery manufacturing (Li-ion or Lead-acid) or related industries (automotive, electronics, energy storage).
Experience managing hazardous materials and import logistics is a robust advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of battery components and raw materials.
Proficiency in SAP / ERP systems (MM, PP, SCM modules).
Understanding of customs, GST, logistics documentation.
Strong data analysis and planning tools (Excel, MRP, forecasting models).
