Job Description:

A Senior Electrician (Sr. Electrician) in a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) for a steel manufacturing company is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in a heavy industrial environment, often leading a team. This role ensures maximum machinery uptime, focusing on Induction Furnaces, Continuous Casting Machines (CCM), and overhead cranes.

Key Job Description & Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Repair: Execute both preventive and breakdown maintenance on HT/LT equipment, motors, control panels, and drives to ensure smooth SMS operations.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and fix complex electrical issues in induction furnaces, transformers, and EOT cranes, reducing downtime.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, including PPE usage and lock-out/tag-out procedures, to prevent accidents in a hazardous environment.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and guide junior electricians, allocate daily maintenance tasks, and manage shift activities.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed records of electrical work, maintenance schedules, and machine performance data.
• Coordination: Work closely with mechanical and production teams for shutdown maintenance and operational efficiency.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Education: ITI or NCVT in Electrical trades is typically required.
• Experience: A minimum of 4–8 years of experience, preferably in a steel plant (SMS), induction furnace, or heavy industry.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong expertise in LT/HT lines, motors, PLCs, EOT cranes, and control panels.
• Physical Ability: Ability to perform physical tasks in hot, noisy, and high-voltage industrial environments.
