What You’ll Do

The primary responsibility of Specialist - Embedded Software will be to lead the technical development of Embedded Software for various product developments with the support of engineering managers by effectively leveraging Agile best practices. In this role,he/she will functionally report to the Chief Engineers Office Head in EIIC and will be responsible for system-level requirements analysis, architecture, design, development and other team development processes. The person will take ownership of building innovation in embedded system architecture for product differentiation. Contribution of this role will bring competitive advantage of EATON products in market.

Success in this position requires the ability to drive and standardize embedded software design and development across business unit, work effectively in a matrixed structure, strong motivation for pursuing project objectives and the ability to learn new techniques and development processes. We are looking for candidates who are able to see the bigger picture; strength in a system-level viewpoint is a must.This position will be based in EIIC,Pune in Chief Engineer's Office - Power Electronics.

Job Responsibilities
  • Understand top level product requirement and create more detail sub-system requirements to meet top level product requirement
  • Define software architecture to meet customer / product requirement
  • Understand hardware circuit – Analog Circuits, Digital Electronics, Embedded hardware circuits and Power Electronics
  • Evaluate system performance requirements and model future requirements to identify and mitigate risks. Collaborate with the hardware team to support development and testing.
  • Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment
  • Stage work and delegate appropriate aspects of design and implementation to other developers, ensuring compliance with architecture and systems/design requirements
  • Lead and guide complex system interface design activities and lead the resolution of integration issues across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Collaborate with product owners/Managers, functional managers, systems engineering to distill product/system/design requirements/use cases to firmware designs/stories, size stories, developing module & system level code, and unit tests
  • Design, develop, code, test, and debug system software for Embedded devices
  • Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources
  • Mentor other engineers and Review code and design
  • Lead technical discussion and design reviews with vendors and cross-function groups
  • Support test and validation plan created in accordance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Comply with Development Process
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with key stakeholders e.g. vendors, customers, Product Marketing etc.
  • Identify and leverage new technologies to enhance product features, improve quality/efficiency/collaboration.
  • Participate in DevOps for embedded software delivery by extending Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for one or more software release streams per product family
  • Demonstrate technical leadership level contributions with Linux and/or RTOS based embedded systems as well as coach and mentor other team members with respect to technology, architecture, design principles, and coding practices.

  • Qualifications

    Bachelor’s/Master's Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution required

    Technical Skills
  • 15 + years of design & development experience of embedded system software - RTOS, C, Embedded Linux, C++.
  • Low level device driver development for different peripherals e.g. CAN, RS485, SPI, Ethernet, ADC etc.
  • Experience in Board bring-up, Boot loader development
  • Experience in RTOS, Embedded Linux
  • Excellent programming skills in embedded C/C++
  • Experience in different microcontrollers. STM based experience would be added advantage
  • Application design and development for embedded systems
  • Modbus over RS485/TCP, TCP/IP protocols, EtherCAT
  • Experience in electrical product development.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • JIRA, Confluence, Blackduck, Coverity, GitHub
  • Able to understand and review hardware schematic.
  • Familiar with CI/CD process
  • Ability to work in Agile Scrum Environment
  • Experience with multi-core embedded systems
  • Experience using tools for architecture and design such as Enterprise Architect, Visio, Archimate or System Composer
