Soft Skills Trainer cum Counsellor – DDU-GKY Project

Reporting To

Centre Manager / Project Manager

Location

DDU-GKY Training Centre (with field visits as required)

Role Purpose

To impart employability and life skills training to DDU-GKY candidates and provide continuous counselling, mentoring, and psychosocial support to ensure high retention, successful placement, and post-placement sustainability.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Soft Skills Training

Deliver Employability Skills Training as per DDU-GKY curriculum, including:

Communication skills (verbal & non-verbal)

Workplace etiquette & discipline

Teamwork, leadership & problem-solving

Time management & professionalism

Interview skills & resume preparation

Conduct classroom sessions, role plays, mock interviews, and group activities.

Customize training methods based on rural youth background and learning levels.

Ensure minimum mandated training hours are completed and recorded.

2. Candidate Counselling & Mentoring

Provide pre-training counselling to candidates and parents regarding:

Course details, expectations, and career pathways

Conduct ongoing one-to-one and group counselling to address:

Dropout risks

Behavioral issues

Emotional or personal challenges

Support candidates during on-the-job training (OJT) and post-placement phases.

Motivate candidates to adapt to workplace culture, migration, and shift duties.

3. Placement & Post-Placement Support

Prepare candidates for industry interaction and employer expectations.

Assist placement team during:

Employer interviews

Joining formalities

Maintain contact with placed candidates for retention tracking (minimum 90 days/1 year as per norms).

Provide counselling support in case of:

Job dissatisfaction

Workplace stress

Early attrition

4. Documentation & Compliance

Maintain training attendance, session plans, and counselling records.

Update candidate progress and counselling notes in DDU-GKY MIS/ERP.

Support internal and external SRLM/MoRD audits and inspections.

Submit periodic reports to Centre/Project Manager.

5. Coordination & Community Engagement

Coordinate with:

Technical trainers

Centre staff

Mobilization teams

Participate in mobilization programs, village meetings, and awareness sessions when required.

Engage with parents/guardians to improve candidate confidence and retention.

Educational Qualification

Graduate / Post-Graduate in:

Social Work

Psychology

Education

Human Resources

Any relevant discipline

Experience

1–3 years experience in:

Soft skills training

Youth counselling

Skill development projects (DDU-GKY/PMKVY/NSDC preferred)

Freshers with strong communication and counselling aptitude may be considered.

Skills & Competencies

Excellent communication & interpersonal skills

Robust counselling and motivational abilities

Ability to handle rural youth and diverse socio-economic backgrounds

Proficiency in local language(s) and English/Hindi

Basic computer skills (MS Office, MIS entry)

Empathy, patience, and problem-solving attitude

Experience in residential training centres
