Senior Accountant (Timber Industry)

Location: Mon, Nagaland

Job Purpose

The Senior Accountant will oversee the entire financial operations of the timber processing unit. This role involves managing complex cost accounting related to raw material (logs) procurement, production processing, inventory valuation, and ensuring strict compliance with GST and state-specific forest regulations in Nagaland.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Reporting

- Maintain and oversee the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Conduct month-end and year-end closing processes with high accuracy.
- Manage accounts payable (vendor payments for logs, transport, and machinery) and accounts receivable.

2. Cost Accounting & Inventory Control

- Log Procurement Accounting: Track costs associated with timber permits, royalties, and payments to local landholders or forest departments.
- Production Costing: Calculate the "Cost of Goods Sold" (COGS) by tracking labor, electricity, and machinery depreciation per cubic foot/meter of finished timber.
- Stock Management: Monitor raw logs, Work-in-Progress (WIP), and finished timber stock levels. Coordinate with the yard manager for periodic physical stock verification in Mon.
- Wastage Analysis: Track and report on wood wastage/by-product (sawdust, offcuts) and their impact on profitability.

3. Statutory Compliance & Taxation

- GST Compliance: Ensure timely filing of GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B. Manage E-way bill generation for inter-state timber transport.
- Local Regulations: Manage Nagaland-specific forest royalties, transit pass fees, and environmental cess compliance.
- TDS & Payroll: Handle TDS deductions on contractor payments (loggers/transporters) and oversee payroll for factory workers and staff.
- Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax consultants.

4. Budgeting & MIS

- Prepare annual budgets and conduct variance analysis (Budget vs. Actual).
- Generate Daily/Weekly MIS reports for management regarding production costs and cash flow at the Mon unit.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Education: B.Com (Graduate) is mandatory; M.Com, MBA (Finance), or Inter-CA/CMA is highly preferred.
- Experience: 5–8 years of experience in accounting, ideally in Manufacturing, Plywood, or Timber industries.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Advanced knowledge of Tally Prime / ERP 9.
- Expertise in MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, Advanced Formulas).
- Hands-on experience with GST and Income Tax portals.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with timber measurements (Hoppus rule, cubic feet) and forest department paperwork is a major advantage.

Behavioral Competencies

- Location Readiness: Ability to work and reside in Mon, Nagaland.
- Language: Proficiency in English and Hindi; knowledge of Nagamese or local dialects is beneficial for interacting with vendors and workers.
- Integrity: High ethical standards when dealing with landholder payments and forest royalties.

Salary & Benefits

- Salary: ₹40,000 – ₹50,000 per month (Negotiable based on experience).

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
