Job Description

The Resource Planning and Market Assessment (RP&MA) team is responsible for economic

analysis of various electric utilities across the US, with a focus on integrating renewables and

storage to plan for the clean energy grid of the future. We advise our development team,

company leadership, and external clients on optimal resource planning decisions. We contribute

to investment decisions in solar, wind, battery storage and hydrogen. We are a data-driven team

that believes in continuous improvement and collaboration. This means that we are always

looking to develop better tools, processes, and modeling approaches through learning and

knowledge sharing. We are looking for someone who enjoys challenges, works well in a

collaborative team environment, and revels in seeking answers through data analytics.

The Engineer of RP&MA Planning is part of a highly skilled professional team and reports to the

Manager of the department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform a broad range of studies and other consulting services to support electric utilities

  • and asset developers to make decisions backed by business and engineering analysis

    regarding their investments and power supply requirements, such as integrated resource

    planning, market assessments, valuations, and power supply RFP evaluations.

  • Researching about the US power markets (PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC,

  • ERCOT, NYISO) and assisting for the production cost & capacity expansion models

    development which can be utilized for the power price forecasting and congestion &

    curtailment risk evaluation.

  • Perform forecasts and evaluations utilizing power supply planning software such as

  • capacity optimization and hourly dispatch software models.

  • Extracting key operational characteristics and market assumptions from internal sources

  • and third-party databases like S&P Global and Velocity Suite.

  • Analyze life-cycle costs by developing and incorporating technical assumptions regarding

  • capital costs, operation and maintenance costs, performance estimates, and economic

    assumptions and forecasts.

  • Conduct technical and business-related risk assessments that evaluate impacts associated

  • with rules implemented by regulatory agencies.

  • Developing presentation materials that communicate clearly the analyses performed and

  • conveying insights that help developers better serve their utility customers.

  • Support multiple ad hoc projects inclusive of those above, completing them in a timely

  • manner.

    Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Power / Energy systems is preferred or bachelor’s in electrical

  • engineering is must.

  • Prior experience associated with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting is

  • preferred.

  • 4-5 years of experience in production cost modeling, and/or power market economics

  • analysis using industry-standard models such as PROMOD or PLEXOS.

  • Knowledge of the US power market is required.

  • Strong understanding of the economics underlying electric power generation and

  • background in power sector modeling, resource cost-benefit analysis, or related complex

    system modeling.

  • Experience in evaluating complex technical and financial issues independently,

  • developing recommendations, action plans, and managing multiple complex assignments

    simultaneously.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and

  • problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving

  • environment.

  • Strong data management, analysis, and presentation skills (Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

  • A willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and the market requires

  • changes to the service offerings provided by our group.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters in Power/ Energy Systems (Electrical) is preferred.

  • Experience with production cost models (PLEXOS, PROMOD, etc.) is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of US power market economics.

  • Sophisticated data management and statistical analysis skills using Excel VBA, Power BI, R

and Python
