Position: Plant Manager – Biochar

About the Role

The Biochar Plant Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the biochar production facility, including plant operations, team building, biomass sourcing, and procurement. This role requires strong operational leadership to ensure efficient production, quality control, and smooth supply chain management for biomass and plant inputs.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations & Management

    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the biochar production plant.

    • Ensure efficient operation of pyrolysis units and maintain optimal production levels.

    • Monitor plant performance, maintenance schedules, and safety compliance.

    • Implement SOPs for plant operations and ensure adherence to quality standards.

    Plant Commissioning & Setup

    • Lead the commissioning and operational setup of the biochar plant.

    • Coordinate with engineering teams, vendors, and contractors during installation and commissioning of pyrolysis units.

    • Ensure plant systems, machinery, and safety processes are tested and operational before full-scale production.

    • Develop SOPs and operational guidelines during the commissioning phase.

    Team Setup & Leadership

    • Recruit, train, and manage plant staff including operators, supervisors, and field coordinators.

    • Establish clear workflows, responsibilities, and reporting structures.

    • Ensure team productivity, safety, and operational discipline.

    Biomass Sourcing & Supply Management

    • Identify and onboard farmers, aggregators, and FPOs for sustainable biomass sourcing.

    • Ensure continuous supply of quality biomass feedstock for plant operations.

    • Monitor storage, moisture control, and biomass inventory management.

    Procurement & Vendor Management

    • Manage procurement of plant equipment, spare parts, and operational materials.

    • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for timely availability of inputs.

    • Optimize procurement processes to ensure cost efficiency and quality.

    Compliance & Reporting

    • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational regulations.

    • Maintain operational records, production data, and inventory reports.

    • Provide periodic updates on plant performance and operational metrics to leadership.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or related field.

    • Experience in industrial plant operations, biomass processing, or manufacturing is preferred.

    Experience

    • 4–8 years of experience in plant operations, manufacturing, or industrial project management.

    • Experience working with agriculture supply chains or biomass sourcing will be an advantage.
