A **Medical Transcriptionist** in a radiology centre (MRI, CT, USG) is responsible for converting radiologists’ dictated reports into accurate, explicit, and formatted medical documents. Their work directly impacts diagnosis quality and communication with referring doctors.

Here are the key roles and responsibilities

- *1. Transcription of Radiology Reports**
- Transcribe audio dictations from radiologists for:
- MRI scans
- CT scans
- Ultrasound (USG) reports
- Convert voice recordings into structured written reports (findings + impression).
- *2. Editing & Proofreading**
- Review and correct grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology.
- Ensure accuracy of:
- Anatomy descriptions
- Measurements
- Clinical findings
- Edit speech recognition (voice recognition) drafts when used.
- *3. Understanding Medical Terminology**
- Strong knowledge of:
- Radiology terms (e.g., lesions, masses, contrast enhancement)
- Anatomy and physiology
- Interpret accents, abbreviations, and complex medical language correctly.
- *4. Maintaining Turnaround Time (TAT)**
- Ensure quick delivery of reports (especially for emergency cases).
- Prioritize urgent MRI/CT findings.
- Meet daily productivity targets.
- *5. Documentation & Formatting**
- Format reports as per centre standards:
- Patient details
- Clinical history
- Findings
- Impression/Conclusion
- Ensure consistency across all reports.
- *6. Confidentiality & Data Security**
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
- Follow data protection policies (HIPAA-like standards or local regulations).
- Handle sensitive medical records securely.
- *7. Coordination with Radiologists**
- Clarify unclear dictations or missing information.
- Communicate discrepancies or doubts.
- Incorporate corrections suggested by radiologists.
- *8. Use of Software Systems**
- Work with:
- Transcription software
- Voice recognition tools
- RIS (Radiology Information System)
- PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
- Upload finalized reports into the system.
- *9. Quality Assurance**
- Ensure reports are error-free and clinically accurate.
- Avoid critical mistakes that could affect diagnosis.
- Participate in quality checks or audits.
- *10. Report Handling & Delivery**
- Ensure completed reports are sent to:
- Radiologists for final approval
- Referring physicians
- Flag urgent or critical findings for immediate attention.
- *Key Skills Required**
- Excellent typing speed and accuracy
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology
- Good listening skills (understanding different accents)
