Maintenance Fitter – Job Description

A Maintenance Fitter is a skilled worker who repairs, maintains, and services machines and mechanical equipment in factories, plants, and workshops. Their main job is to keep machines running smoothly and prevent breakdowns.

Main Duties:

1. Machine Maintenance

• Perform regular inspection and maintenance of machines and equipment.
• Check machine parts to ensure proper operation.

2. Repairing Equipment

• Repair damaged or faulty mechanical parts.
• Replace worn-out components such as bearings, belts, gears, and shafts.

3. Installing Machines

• Help install new machines and equipment in the factory.
• Align and assemble machine parts correctly.

4. Troubleshooting Problems

• Identify mechanical problems in machines.
• Fix breakdowns quickly to reduce production downtime.

5. Using Tools and Instruments

• Use tools like:
• Spanners
• Wrenches
• Hammers
• Vernier caliper
• Micrometer

6. Lubrication and Adjustment

• Lubricate machine parts regularly.
• Adjust machine settings for smooth operation.

7. Safety and Documentation

• Follow workplace safety rules.
• Maintain records of maintenance work.

Qualification:

• ITI in Fitter / Mechanical trade
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (optional)
• Experience in machine maintenance

Average Salary (India):

• ₹17,000 – ₹21,000 per month for freshers
