THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for a specialized software engineer who is passionate about firmware & software development for AMD Adaptable SOC. You will be a member of a core team of incredibly talented industry specialists and will work with the very latest hardware and software technology. 

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate should be passionate about software engineering and possess leadership skills to drive sophisticated issues to resolution. Able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across AMD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead BSP development and board bring‑up for new AMD platforms
  • Develop and maintain Yocto‑based BSPs, including:
  • Layers, recipes (.bb, .bbappend), distros, and SDKs
  • WIC images, initramfs, and rootfs customization
  • Drive Linux kernel bring‑up
  • Configuration, patching, driver integration, and boot issue debugging
  • Develop and debug U‑Boot
  • Boot flows (QSPI / SD / eMMC / UFS)
  • Environment variables, boot scripts, and secure boot basics
  • Author and debug Device Tree files (DTS / DTB / DTBO)
  • Work with board‑level peripherals such as I2C, UART, SD, USB, eMMC, and UFS
  • Collaborate closely with AMD Architecture, Hardware, and Firmware teams
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers within the team

  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • 5–7 years of strong C programming experience
  • 5–7 years of scripting experience with Bash, Python, YAML, and TCL
  • 5–7 years of hands‑on experience with Yocto‑based BSP development
  • Proven experience working with new or early‑stage boards
  • Strong understanding of ARM‑based SoCs at the system level
  • Experience with software development tools such as:
  • Git/GitHub, debuggers, and profiling tools
  • Familiarity with Xilinx/AMD tools such as Vivado, Vitis, and PetaLinux is a strong plus
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong problem‑solving mindset
  • Ability to write high‑quality, maintainable code with attention to detail

  • ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
