Key Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION for Electrical Substation & E&I Design Engineer

A Substation Design Engineer Project Lead directs engineering teams in developing, designing, and delivering high-voltage (HV/EHV) substation projects (AIS/GIS). Key responsibilities include creating/reviewing design drawings (layouts, single-lines, relay panels), performing technical calculations, managing budgets/schedules, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating with clients and vendors.

Core Responsibilities

Design Leadership: Lead primary (layouts, bus, equipment) and secondary (protection, control) design, ensuring compliance with IEEE, IEC, or ANSI standards. And also instrumentation engineering.

Project Management: Define technical scopes, prepare bills of materials (BOM), create design schedules, and manage project budgets.

Technical Review: Review and approve substation layouts, single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and relay panel arrangements.

Engineering Calculations: Perform or oversee load flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, and raceway calculations.

Coordination & Collaboration: Act as the single point of contact between clients

Mentorship: Guide junior engineers in technical design practices, standards, and troubleshooting.

Work Experience

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Experience: 5-16 years of experience in detailed primary and secondary engineering for substations (often 765/400 kV systems).

Software Proficiency: AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, or similar design/analytical software. Added advantage.

Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of AIS (Air Insulated) and GIS (Gas Insulated) substation design, including protection and control systems.

Soft Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills
