Position Overview:

Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) is based in Bangalore, India and is engaged in the development and support of advanced aerospace and aviation technologies, products, and services. Boeing Artificial Intelligence (Boeing AI) India is part of Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC), and is focused on innovation, and developing & transitioning new technologies in support of Boeing products and services.

We work across the complete product lifecycle of Boeing's commercial aircraft, military aircraft, rotorcraft, space vehicles, UAVs, and advanced vehicle prototypes. We provide innovative support for our current and future products and services, act as global scouts for innovative technologies, and solve our customers' most difficult technology challenges.

The Boeing AI India team has an immediate opening for a Lead AI/ML Engineer – Predictive Maintenance. The selected individual will lead cross-functional teams to determine, define and deploy complex predictive/prescriptive analytics solutions to advance our Airplane Prognostics & Health Management (PHM) capabilities. This role focuses on applying AI/ML techniques to Predictive Maintenance and health monitoring of aircraft systems and subsystems.

He/She/They will Lead projects to develop analytics solutions that help improve aircraft performance, development of Diagnostics & Prognostics solutions of Aircraft Systems, increase the operational efficiency of aircraft fleet operators, improve/optimize the productivity of Boeing engineering, operations & manufacturing and simulate aircraft lifecycle scenarios for potential customers.

In addition, the candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to contribute to the development of future vision and direction of Boeing’s technology development in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, image/video processing, NLP, GenAI, data analytics and their application to diverse areas relevant to Boeing.

This position will be based out of Bangalore, India and will work with other colleagues located in India, United States and other global locations. This position will report to the Manager – Applied AI & Innovation. This position may require occasional (10%) travel within India and internationally.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Perform project lead role for AI app development: translate requirements into actionable tasks, coordinate cross-functional teams, and manage agile/scrum processes to ensure timely delivery.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, report progress and risks, prioritize backlog, and ensure implementation quality and alignment with business objectives.
  • Analyze requirements, historical operational data from aircraft fleets, design and Architect innovative solutions to meet diagnostic and prognostic requirements for aircraft sub-systems as per project definition.
  • Apply Advanced Prognostics & Health Monitoring techniques, to assess the state of health, monitor component failures for aircraft systems & subsystems.
  • Develop and refine algorithms to estimate Remaining Useful Life (RUL) and identify early-stage degradation patterns.
  • Implement innovative, nonstandard approaches for anomaly detection, fault isolation and health prediction using physics, probabilistic, and machine learning based approaches in high level software (Python, Matlab/Simulink, etc.)
  • Build and productionize ML models (anomaly detection, RUL, fault classification) with modern stacks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) and MLOps practices (Docker, Kubernetes, model registries).
  • Implement edge/cloud architectures and scalable storage (time‑series DBs, data lakes) to support fleet‑scale telemetry and real‑time analytics.
  • Design explainable visualizations and dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, GoJS), highlighting KPIs, model outputs and uncertainty for stakeholders.
  • Apply explainable AI, privacy-preserving methods, and federated learning where appropriate to protect data and enable decentralized training.
  • Execute AI testing, verification & validation (V&V): define test datasets and metrics, run simulation and edge scenario testing, adversarial and robustness checks, calibration and uncertainty evaluation, safety-case evidence and continuous post‑deployment monitoring.
  • Drive test-driven development process.
  • Enforce data governance, security and compliance.
  • Run rapid proofs‑of‑concept, pilot programs and vendor evaluations with clear KPIs and operational handover plans.
  • Collaborate with international cross‑functional teams and customers to translate technical work into product and after‑sales value.
  • Track milestones and performance and timely report to Management
  • Create valuable Innovation by harvesting invention disclosures from work statements, contribute to patent filings and research publications.

    Basic Qualifications(Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology (including Electrical,Electronics, Mechanical, Aeronautics, Information Science), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Related work experience in Data science, machine learning or advanced analytics algorithm development related to failure diagnostics & prognostics (i.e. anomaly detection, fault isolation and estimation of remaining useful life).
  • Strong expertise in classical machine learning specifically regression and classification algorithms.
  • Strong NLP and Generative AI expertise in designing language-based models, performing feature engineering, analyzing model performance, and integrating LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, knowledge graphs, and semantic search.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, libraries like Pandas, Numpy and Scikit-Learn for data manipulation and statistical modeling.
  • Expertise in working with one or more deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Solid SQL skills, nosql databases and data modelling are required.
  • Experience in DevOps & MLOps practices and managing end-to-end lifecycle of predictive models.

  • Preferred Qualifications(Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 4+ years of experience related to (i.e. anomaly detection, fault isolation and estimation of remaining useful life)
  • Specialization in Data Science, AI/ML or related discipline from a Tier 1/reputed academic institution is preferred.
  • Track record in performing and leading research & development of highly innovative AI-driven solutions for difficult problems.
  • Experience with Predictive Maintenance or Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM)
  • Expertise in building and productizing Machine Learning/Deep Learning models.
  • Experience with rigid object recognition and tracking.
  • Experience with application of probabilistic modelling, reliability modelling, parameter estimation tools e.g. Kalman Filter or Metaheuristic Algorithms
  • Experience with digital twin, simulation & modelling of aircraft systems
  • Signal processing & rotary machine health monitoring
  • Experience of prescriptive analytics or maintenance / logistics / fleet planning optimization
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools
  • Be a self-starter who is not afraid to pro-actively seek information and direction to successfully complete the statement of work.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently with a positive attitude and highest ethics.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (early or late as needed) to interface with Boeing personnel around the world.
  • Excellent presentation & communication skills: Demonstrate strong written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Be fluent in written and spoken English, and familiar with MS Office tools.
  • Certifications in Prognostics & Diagnostics & Contributions to leading research journals or conferences in Prognostics & Health Monitoring, Airplane Health Management preferred.
  • TOGAF certification preferred.

Education/experience is typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 12 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
