About Us

SOVO International School is Chandigarh Tricity's first IB-curriculum school where children learn by doing, launching April 2026. We believe music isn't a 'special' class, it's essential to how children learn, express, and understand the world. We're looking for someone who sees music as a language, a tool for connection, and a pathway to creativity and confidence.

The Role

We're seeking an enthusiastic, creative IB Music Teacher to design and deliver music education for Early Years (ages 2-6) and Primary Years (ages 6-10) students. You'll help children explore rhythm, melody, movement, and expression while connecting music to bigger concepts, cultures, and real-life experiences through the IB framework. This role is about fostering creativity, collaboration, cultural awareness, and joy through music.

What You'll Do

Facilitate Inquiry-Based Music Learning:

• Plan and deliver engaging music lessons aligned with IB Early Years and PYP frameworks
• Introduce students to diverse musical styles, instruments, traditions, and cultural expressions
• Connect music to transdisciplinary Units of Inquiry; explore how music relates to identity, culture, systems, change, and more

Foster Creativity & Expression:

• Encourage improvisation, composition, and musical experimentation
• Create opportunities for students to express emotions, tell stories, and communicate through music
• Build confidence through performance

Teach Musical Skills & Concepts:

• Develop foundational skills: rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics
• Introduce age-appropriate instruments (percussion, keyboard, recorder, ukulele, etc.)
• Incorporate movement, singing, listening, and creating

Collaborate Across Disciplines:

• Work with homeroom teachers to integrate music into broader learning themes
• Support school events, assemblies, and celebrations with musical performances
• Collaborate with the early years and primary teams to create holistic learning experiences

Celebrate Diversity Through Music:

• Expose students to music from different cultures, traditions, and time periods
• Use music to build global awareness and appreciation for diversity

Assess for Growth:

• Observe student progress through participation, creativity, and musical expression
• Use portfolios, recordings, and reflections to track development

Who You Are

Essential:

• Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or related field
• Minimum 1 year of teaching experience (preferably with young children)
• Proficiency in multiple musical instruments and vocal training
• Strong English communication skills
• Passion for working with children ages 2-10 and making music accessible and joyful
• Understanding of child development and age-appropriate music pedagogy

Highly Desirable:

• IB experience (Early Years or Primary Years Programme)
• IB music certification or willingness to complete (fully sponsored by us)
• Knowledge of Orff, Kodly, Dalcroze, or other progressive music education approaches
• Experience integrating music with storytelling, drama, movement, and visual arts
• Ability to teach world music and diverse cultural traditions
• Experience organizing recitals, performances, or music showcases
• Comfort with technology (digital music tools, recording, etc.)
