Position Purpose

The Head Finance, Bio BD&L is the finance leader driving value creation through business development and licensing agreements, as well as strategic partnerships, to maximize Bio sustainable growth in alignment with Sandoz strategic priorities.

This position partners closely with BD&L, Corporate Strategy, R&D, Commercial, Pipeline and Legal, providing financial insights and guidance to shape the deal strategy and structure, supporting negotiations, modelling deal valuations, while assessing and mitigating risk and securing optimal outcomes for the company.

Your Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Strategic & financial leadership: Finance partner to develop and implement global BD strategy in alignment with Sandoz strategy, supported by market trends, competitive landscape, industry benchmarks and emerging opportunities. Shape deal strategies, ensuring financial attractiveness and providing win-win options for partnerships
  • Deal evaluation & valuation: Lead end-to-end financial modelling, including valuations, multiple-scenario modelling, assessing underlying assumptions Develop and maintain robust financial frameworks. Evaluate risk and opportunities thorough financial analysis, providing recommendations to mitigate risks, providing transparency through sensitivity analyses
  • Deal Structuring & negotiation: Support negotiation strategy, support on deal terms, and due diligences. Assess value drivers, risk-sharing mechanisms, and milestone structures. Translate underlying assumptions into clear financial implications. Acts as a core member influencing structure and terms
  • Governance, decision making and compliance: Prepare and present investment cases to senior leadership and governance bodies. Ensure compliant BD&L processes vs. internal controls, accounting. standards other regulations. Lead financial due diligence to evaluate partnership risk. Fit for purpose under OpEx and Cash company guidelines
  • Performance Monitoring & Post‑Deal Integration: Partner with FRA and controlling to monitor milestones, payments, obligations and value delivery (B/S position). Ensure deal integration within Finance functions and monitoring financial reporting. Identify learnings from past deals to improve future deal shaping
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Foster strong cross functional collaboration and act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders. Promote strategic thinking, analytical excellence and high-quality decision making. Attracts, develops, and retains finance talent. Interact with external partners as part of negotiation

  • Essential Requirements

    What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Master’s degree (MBA/Finance) or a professional certification such as CFA/CPA is highly preferred. Min 15+ years' experience in Finance with a strong background in valuations, corporate finance or M&A/BD&L ideally in a multinational environment (pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, or healthcare industry preferred)
  • Expertise in financial modelling, deal structuring, and strategic analysis.
  • Strong communication, business acumen and familiarity with R&D and commercial models
  • Experience supporting negotiations for complex partnerships, licensing agreements, or asset transactions
  • Understanding of intellectual property, regulatory frameworks, and market access dynamics
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders
  • Team management and leadership experience
