Overview

This role is central to edept’s mission of producing modern, engaging, and visually compelling academic textbooks and learning material. The Visual Storytelling & Design Intern will be responsible for transforming simplified academic content into structured, reader-friendly, beautifully designed textbooks and digital learning assets. The intern’s work will directly shape the visual identity and student experience across 100+ academic subjects.

The role is intended for candidates with strong visual design ability, an editorial mindset, and a storytelling approach to content presentation.

Key Responsibilities1. Textbook and Layout Design
  • Design chapter layouts, section dividers, concept pages, summaries, case studies, and visual aids.
  • Develop magazine-style, modern textbook formats inspired by contemporary academic publishing standards.
  • Create a scalable design system for consistent output across all subjects, including typography, color palettes, headers, footers, and component blocks.
  • Produce visually appealing and print-ready textbook pages with high attention to detail.

  • 2. Visual Storytelling
  • Convert academic concepts into clear visual narratives.
  • Use illustrations, diagrams, flowcharts, and structured sequences to make complex ideas accessible.
  • Work with the Academic Writer to maintain alignment between content and visual structure.
  • Apply editorial judgment to organize information for readability and engagement.

  • 3. Animation-Ready Visuals
  • Prepare static storyboards, composition frames, and visual elements that can be directly used for animated videos.
  • Create structured scenes for future video production pipelines.
  • Collaborate with animation tools or animators when necessary.

  • 4. AI-Assisted Design
  • Utilize AI tools (e.g., Midjourney, DALL·E, Ideogram, Figma AI) to accelerate diagram creation, illustrations, and layout variations.
  • Use Canva bulk features or template systems for efficient batch generation of slides or pages.
  • Ensure AI-generated visuals meet academic and aesthetic requirements.

  • 5. Collaboration and Workflow
  • Work closely with the Academic Writer Intern to convert structured content into designed textbook pages.
  • Provide design templates for consistency across subjects.
  • Support multiple rounds of revisions and quality checks.
  • Maintain branding consistency and adhere to the EDEPT design style guide.

  • Required SkillsCore Design Skills
  • Proficiency in Canva (mandatory).
  • Strong skills in PowerPoint for academic decks.
  • Working knowledge of Figma (preferred for layout systems).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or InDesign is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, layout, white space, and typography.
  • Ability to produce visually clean, modern, and structured academic pages.

  • Storytelling Skills
  • Ability to convert content into clear, sequential visual narratives.
  • Strong editorial sense; understanding of how readers consume and retain information.
  • Creativity in developing relatable, intuitive visualizations for academic topics.

  • Additional Skills (Preferred)
  • Experience with motion graphics (basic level).
  • Experience in creating infographics, icons, and illustrations.
  • Ability to generate diagrams or visual concepts using AI tools.

  • Eligibility
  • Any Bachelor’s degree (final-year students are eligible).
  • A design portfolio demonstrating layout design, infographics, editorial design, or related work.
  • No mandatory requirement for domain-specific academic background.
