The original Tata Sierra, sold in the 1990s and early 2000s, holds a cult status in India for its unique boxy, glass-heavy styling and rugged appeal. Now, Tata aims to resurrect that emotional connection while infusing modern design language and advanced technology. The goal: make the Sierra not just a throwback, but a competitive, future-ready SUV.

Launch Timeline & Strategy

  • According to Tata’s announcements and investor presentations, the EV version of the Sierra is expected to launch first, followed by the ICE version. Autocar India+2www.ndtv.com+2

  • Another possibility is the use of the 2.0-litre diesel engine as seen in the Harrier / Safari family for higher variants. India Today+1

  • Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and perhaps a torque-converter automatic depending on variant. India Today+1

  • Importantly, AWD or 4×4 configurations are also being considered for ICE versions, making it one of Tata’s first such SUVs in years.
