In a major move toward safer mobility in India, Maruti Suzuki has officially made six airbags standard across all variants of its popular hatchback, the Baleno, starting July 2025. The announcement is seen as a response to both government regulation and growing consumer demand for safer vehicles in the country.

📌 What Changed?

Until now, only the higher-end Zeta and Alpha variants of the Baleno offered six airbags. With this update, even the base model now includes:

  • Dual front airbags

  • Side and curtain airbags

  • Enhanced structural safety compliance with Bharat NCAP

With the six-airbag configuration, the Baleno has achieved a 4-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP for adult protection—an improvement over the earlier dual-airbag variant.

    🔍 Industry Context

Maruti’s update is timely. As per new Indian government mandates:

    • All passenger vehicles must include six airbags from October 2025

    • Manufacturers like Hyundai, Tata, and now Maruti are racing to meet these standards in advance

This strategic shift also aligns Maruti with global standards and enhances its appeal to export markets.
